At trivago, I work on different ways to tell the same product story: comparing hotel prices and saving money.

Each TV campaign brings a different setting and creative approach. My challenge is to make the product animation feel part of that story while keeping the comparison and saving message clear.

Timing, hierarchy and product clarity.

01 / Motion decisions

Compare prices.
Save money.

Working within trivago’s motion guidelines and established movements, I decide how much information to show, where it appears and when it moves.

I consider everything competing for attention in the frame: the filmed action, the device, the interface and the text. The timing needs to guide the viewer through the comparison and leave enough room to read the saving message.

The four-second product brief

Show the comparison.

Around two seconds to bring the offers together and establish the price difference.

Reinforce the saving.

The remaining time gives the on-screen message room to be read.

Motion that guides attention.

A clear comparison, with room for the saving message.

02 / Product explorations

One product.
Different treatments.

These production previews explore different ways of presenting the phone, the price cards and the saving message.

The wider composition gives more space to the relationship between the device and the text. The closer framing brings the comparison forward, giving the lowest displayed offer more prominence.

The product story stays the same, while the background, scale and framing change how the information is presented.

Exploration — balancing product and message.

Exploration — shifting the visual emphasis.

Final film — bringing the product story to a close.

03 / Working with production

Beyond the animation.

My involvement starts once the concept has been approved. From there, I follow the project through production, focusing on how graphics, product demonstrations and brand animation will work within the film.

That includes being on set. I usually attend the shoot to check product and device shots, helping identify details that could affect the animation or make future adaptations more difficult.

Once the production company delivers the finished work, I rebuild the projects in After Effects as templates for market adaptations. This carries the work into its next stage, giving other designers and production partners a structure they can adapt without rebuilding the animation.
